Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is in full swing!

Girls on the Run (GOTR) inspires girls to be joyful, healthy & confident, using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running!

Any 3rd-5th grader who identifies as a girl can join to build self confidence and compassion for others.

This after school program meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:30-4:00pm, at Highland Park Seattle Park & Recreations park.  This is the park next to the school.

The season runs March 21st- May 23rd.  The program concludes with all the girls running a 5k!

Sessions are facilitated by Highland Park staff and parent and community volunteers.  Masks are required and social distancing is practiced.  Snacks are provided.  Running shoes are made available as needed.  Register here:

Registration is first come first serve and there are limited spots.  There is a sliding fee scale.

If you have questions please reach out to Angella Coker, parent volunteer GOTR site liaison at: angedc@comcast.net.

Every spring Highland Park Elementary is a Girls on the Run site for our 3rd-5th grade girls. For more information or to Volunteer to be a coach check out this great program here.

Why it matters

Girls face social pressures and conflicting messages about how they should act and who they should be. Studies show that by adolescence, girls’ confidence drops about twice as much as boys’. Stressors related to COVID-19 have undoubtedly affected girls, between social isolation, anxiety and more limited opportunities for physical activity.

Girls need us now more than ever.

We believe that EVERY GIRL is inherently FULL OF POWER and POTENTIAL. By knowing they are the leaders of their lives, these are the girls who WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.
